About Barbara Fischkin
Barbara Fischkin is an author, journalist and public relations communicator. Her three books were published by Scribner and Bantam Dell at Random House. She is writing a fourth book which reflects years of research meshed with personal experience, as the mother of a son with autism and the daughter of a woman born in a Ukrainian shtetl. THE DIGGER RESISTANCE (working title) is a historical novel set in Ukraine, Poland, Berlin and New York, 1915-present. The manuscript connects three heroic individuals who are unable to speak—and their mothers. Within the next two years Ms. Fischkin will be considering traditional publication versus platform serialization. Ms. Fischkin's first book MUDDY CUP: A DOMINICAN FAMILY COMES OF AGE IN A NEW AMERICA now has a long-awaited Spanish language translation, which will be published by the Dominican Studies Institute of the City College of New York. Ms. Fischkin has worked as an award-winning international and local journalist. She has held various high-level public relations positions, has considerable online writing experience and has taught journalism at three universities. As she works on final drafts of this novel, she is open to other remote editing and writing assignments and in-person higher education teaching opportunities. She is seeking to place an autism-related television pilot or feature film: BRAINS OF THE FAMILY. This would be the first such project to feature a character with nonspeaking autism. Its time is now.

Senior Writer
Delighted to be welcomed back as a writer for the University Office of Communications & Marketing: Reporting and writing articles for CUNY Matters, along with other assignments. Equally delighted to be working again with this talented, collaborative group of communications experts. A part-time endeavor, as I continue second draft of a historical novel. I am not ruling out a challenging full-time position at CUNY or elsewhere. So please continue to keep me on your radar.
Communications Manager
I am proud to have developed the first-ever general interest magazine at Queensborough Community College, one of seven community colleges at the City University of New York, also known as CUNY. I reported and wrote the stories and advised photographers and a designer. Magazine used as a fundraising tool and distributed to 500 guests at college's annual gala. I wrote many of the stories for a second edition of this magazine, called "Inside Queensborough," as well as a farewell package of stories and accolades for the outgoing president, still posted on college website. http://www.qcc.cuny.edu/president/dbcall/index.html I also pitched stories about the college to other media and wrote additional stories for the website. The college has 16,000 diverse students and a beautiful campus in Bayside, New York. Its "Academies," were ahead of their time and do a heroic job advising and supporting students. Queensborough has a well-regarded theater and art gallery and its Kupferberg Holocaust Center runs educational programs and looks at crimes against humanity with a broad view, now needed more than ever.
