About Barbara Jauregui Wurst

I’m a highly motivated Argentine-American physician with postgraduate studies in Clinical Effectiveness and Healthcare Quality Improvement. I have twenty years of international experience in public health for both governments and NGOs, including public health program development and clinical and operational research. From 2008 to 2014, I worked as a Technical Officer of the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization, providing assistance to Ministries of Health on evidence-based decisions around infectious diseases. Between 2014 and 2019, I worked as an international consultant for international health and research organizations. In 2020, I became the Director of Programs of the Mérieux Foundation USA. The COVID pandemic gave me a unique opportunity to fall in love with childhood education, so in 2021 I co-founded Acton Academy Falls Church, an innovative learner-driven private school (www.actonfallschurch.org). I did it for my own children and for all the families in our area who believe that every child is a genius on a quest to find their unique calling to change the world. SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS- I was responsible for providing PAHO/World Health Organization (WHO) direct technical cooperation to Ministries of Health from over 25 countries in the development and implementation of tools for evidence-based decisions. - I co-led and participated in the development of multiple successful grant proposals, including multi-million Cooperative Agreements with CDC, over $12 million in grants for PAHO’s ProVac Initiative awarded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and other grants and contracts from USAID, DTRA, FCDO and others.- I gave panel presentations at over 40 regional and international meetings, and led 5 regional PAHO/WHO workshops with over 100 participants from 20 countries each.- I hold a Professorial Adjunct position at the MPH Program of the Milken Institute School of Public Health, George Washington University. Also lectured at the Global Health MSc Program, George Mason University, and the Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy MSc Program, University of Buenos Aires.- I published dozens of scientific articles in renowned peer-reviewed journals, and five book chapters (nome de plume: Barbara Jauregui).- I survived and actually enjoyed two years of homeschooling during the pandemic!- I co-founded an innovative learner-driven school in Northern Virginia based on the revolutionary and fast-growing Acton Academy model (www.actonfallschurch.org)

Our learning environment:Partial Spanish immersion including live (on site and virtual) interactions with native-speaking students and Guides.Project-based learning with public exhibitions.Socratic discussions to enhance critical thinking.Adaptive learning technology for children to progress at their own pace.No homework or standardized tests.
