Barbara is a Board-certified professional genealogist. She serves on the board of the Massachusetts Genealogical Council. Barbara's blog, "The Demanding Genealogist," explores issues of quality in genealogical work. She uses generally accepted genealogical standards to review printed and web-based genealogy work products, including her own work. Among Barbara's publications are *Philo Hodge (1756-1842) of Roxbury, Connecticut,* and *Descendants of Governor Thomas Welles of Connecticut and his Wife Alice Tomes.* Barbara also edited *The Descendants of Thomas Lamkin of the Northern Neck of Virginia.* She has many published articles in The American Genealogist (TAG) and articles in journals and magazines as NGS Newsmagazine, Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly (APGQ), The Connecticut Nutmegger, and The Essex Genealogist. Her book reviews have appeared in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, TAG, the National Genealogy Society Quarterly, and APGQ. Barbara's great love was to teach. She lectured at local, regional, and national conferences from 1993-2019. She mentored two groups in the ProGen Studies program, one in the Mastering Genealogical Proof program, and worked as a facilitator in Boston University's genealogical certificate program. For eleven years she served as a trustee of the Board Certification of Genealogists Educational Trust (a Massachusetts charitable trust), developing the preconference Putting Skills to Work program bringing the genealogical institute experience across the US to the National Genealogical Society's Conference in the States. Now Barbara is a happily retired professional genealogist who has the time to work on her own family in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and nearby Westchester County, New York. She is Federal Records Director of the Massachusetts Genealogical Council, the Genealogist of the Welles Family Association, and a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists. She represents ASG on the Records Preservation and Access Coalition headquartered in Washington, DC. She also sits on the board of Reclaim the Records. Her passion for open records guides her volunteer work.

Consulting Editor, Web ColumnistNew England Historic Genealogical Society 1996 - 200399 Newbury Street, BostonWhen the Society initiated the Newbury Street Press, the founding publisher was Brenton Simons and I was his first editor. My speciality was to work with people who were considering producing a family genealogy. We would discuss the scope of work, structure of the book, and time involved. In some cases, I did pre-production editing and was so pleased when one of "my" authors won a statewide prize in the Midwest. I loved the work and only moved on when the Society reassigned me to a different project.
