I came to the US as an au pair, with the plan of improving my English and returning home. I was transitioning to an event marketing career, and proficiency in English would give me an advantage at home in Brazil. However, once in Washington, DC, my life took another course and I have remained here since 2016. Throughout these years I have improved my English and built strong relationships in my communities. When my green card came through in early 2020 I was eager to get back into the marketing field, but this pursuit, like so much else, was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. I decided then to take a new approach and started a Masters degree in Marketing at American University to better understand American business practices and the marketing industry here in order to enter the US professionally. I have also worked in a freelance capacity for the past few years, providing graphic and web design services.
