Responsible for all aspects of product development, from product definition to prioritization, to development, to QA, to build/release, to deployment, across seven different client platforms and a cloud-based services platform. I unified the product management and engineering organizations, resulting in a high-performing global team that efficiently and economically delivered top quality products and services. In my CTO role at iPass, I led a small team researching technologies to enhance the iPass product portfolio. I led a significant cross-team project to introduce Big Data technologies to iPass, that enabled us to derive business value from the myriad of Wi-Fi network data that we got from our users. I established technology partnerships with leading mobile platform providers, which resulted in iPass being the first mobile application developer to gain access to private captive portal APIs. By leveraging these APIs we delivered a richer, more seamless Wi-Fi experience on mobile devices. I also authored numerous patents and managed the iPass patent portfolio, in addition to being responsible for IT Security and Compliance. As the technical voice for iPass, I gave regular presentations on our technology to customers, partners and industry leaders.

As Vice President, Engineering, I was responsible for the global iPass development team (approx. 150 engineers in California and India). We delivered the Open Mobile platform for business travelers on laptops, smartphones and tablets. I led a complete overhaul of our engineering practices and culture, transitioning from an inefficient waterfall development methodology to an agile methodology that we adapted to cater to the complexities of a globally distributed team. I aligned the two engineering teams into an effective organization, capable of rapidly delivering hiqh quality products and services, as if no geographic boundary existed.

After iPass acquired GoRemote, and gained a substantial development team in Bangalore, India, my primary role was to ensure the successful delivery of products and services from our globally distributed development team. I represented iPass at, and was an editor for, the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) Trusted Network Connect (TNC) working group, defining industry standards for endpoint integrity.

General Magic then changed its focus to building a network service that provided subscriber access to email, calendar, contacts, news and stock portfolio through a patented state-of-the-art voice interface. I ramped up quickly on voice technologies, and delivered core service elements for the Portico Virtual Assistant (these elements were later deployed in the GM OnStar voice recognition system).
