Barbara Castro is an artist, researcher and creative coder working in the fields of data visualization, exhibitions, and interactive experiences.She lived for 15 years in one of the largest urban forests in the world, the Tijuca Forest in Rio de Janeiro. During these years, she developed a deep connection with nature. This connection guided her doctoral research on survival instinct and aesthetic experience. Between 2018 and 2022, she worked as a professor at PUC-Rio in the discipline of socio-environmental projects and regenerative cultures, as well as disciplines on the sustainable, critical, and creative development of new technologies. In 2022, Barbara was selected in a public competition for the chair of "Interaction Design, Experimentation and Art" at ESDI/UERJ, the institution where she founded MediaLAB UERJ.Her research and practice in art and technology have been presented in Denmark, France, Colombia, Portugal, and the United States and cited at international events such as Siggraph Asia. As co-founder and director of the Ambos&& studio, she has participated in projects and provided consultancy services to museums such as Museu do Amanhã, Oi Futuro, Museu de Arte do Rio, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, and companies such as BNDES, SESC, and SENAI.Her work includes curating the two editions of the Numerical Existence exhibition (2018 and 2024) at Futuros Arte e Tecnologia and publishing the book of the same name, co-organized with Doris Kosminsky and Luiz Ludwig. In 2019, Barbara co-curated the Data Corpus exhibition with the Casa Firjan team.Previously, she worked as a data visualization designer for three years for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as a member of Labvis/UFRJ. During her master's degree at EBA, Barbara was a scholarship holder at the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA).
