An experienced communications professional, Cherokee County School District Chief Communications Officer Barbara P. Jacoby has led numerous successful initiatives focused on continuous improvement of communications and community engagement.In her role for CCSD, these initiatives have included expanding external and internal communications through the launch of nationally recognized and award-winning social media accounts, a significantly improved website, and mass communication systems; developing new publications to better share and explain information; forming new partnerships and expanding existing relationships with local and regional businesses and organizations; and increasing transparency through the creation of the Open CCSD website. Mrs. Jacoby played key roles in establishing the Cherokee County Educational Foundation nonprofit organization, which, since forming in 2012, has awarded more than $1 Million in grants to CCSD schools, students and teachers; and CCSD's nationally recognized Cherokee Academies school choice program.CCSD, winner of Georgia's 2021 Governance Team of the Year Award, has consistently earned National and State communications and community engagement awards for work by Mrs. Jacoby and her team. These top honors have included numerous National Golden Achievement Awards and Best in State Awards. Recipient of the Georgia School Public Relations Association's Anne Raymond Distinguished Service Award, Mrs. Jacoby has twice earned the Rotary Club of Canton's Lee Arrendale Award for Vocational Excellence, and earned the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce's "Top 10 in 10" Young Professionals to Watch Award. She was elected by her peers to serve as 2017-18 President of the Georgia School PR Association. During her 25 years as a Cherokee County resident, Mrs. Jacoby has served on many community committees and boards. A member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Canton, she is an Honorary Member of the Service League of Cherokee County, having completed 10 years of service including chair of its signature Riverfest for which she was named Member of the Year. She began her professional career upon college graduation as one of the Nation’s youngest managing editors of a metro area daily newspaper. During 13 years in this role, she led her team to national recognition for outstanding community news coverage. Her personal successes as a journalist include earning a prestigious American Press Institute fellowship and top Associated Press awards for reporting and editing.She and her husband have four children.
