Dr. Barbara J. Rubin is a licensed psychologist in Georgia and Florida with over 25 years' experience evaluating, diagnosing and treating indiviuals, couples and families. As of September 2017, she now proudly offers telehealth services via phone and Skype. Dr. Rubin is an entrepreneurial leader who has used her expertise in a variety of diverse settings. In Georgia, while working as the country's first in-house psychologist for a family court system, Dr. Rubin simultaneously ran a successful private practice. In Florida, as a consultant, she created the first mental health company providing services to nursing home residents on the west coast of Florida, and as a hospital vice-president there also created the nation's first LGBT dual-diagnosis inpatient treatment program. Before beginning her doctoral degree she was fortunate enough to play women's professional basketball for one season in Mulhouse, France. In recent years she served as a producer for an award-winning documentary, and also worked in film and theater production in a variety of positions. This background has qualified her to share her clinical expertise with a wide variety of consultation clients including individuals, couples and organizations, with particular emphasis serving medical and legal practitioners as well as actors, musicians and athletes. Dr. Rubin is a member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the Georgia Psychological Association and Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. She was responsible for innovative program development, including the creation of a then one-of-a-kind Cancer Wellness inpatient program for newly diagnosed cancer patients, as well as the creation of the very first dual-diagnosis inpatient treatment program in the country in the mid-1990s to provide an affirming, clinically-sound treatment experience for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patients. The program was staffed by LGBT and heterosexual mental health technicians and psychiatric nurses, all under the medical supervision of a team of affirming psychiatrists well-versed in the mental health needs and challenges of LGBT individuals.
