Technical Manager Of Hydrometallurgy ResearchAnaconda Minerals Co. 1976 - 1982Developed (with several others) hydrometallurgical/flotation process to convert low-grade chalcopyrite concentrates to digenite containing 60% or more copper. Process was piloted and a Canadian patent was granted. Studied migration of silver ions from oxide to sulfide surfaces. Assisted in design of process to recover silver from roaster calcine leach residues. Process has been patented and significantly improves the overall economics of hydrometallurgical treatment of sulfide ores and concentrates. Supervised laboratory testing for plant design of chloride leach circuit to purify molybdenum concentrates. Provided technical assistance for plant start-up. Performed technical and economic evaluations of numerous processes to treat massive sulfide ores. Project leader for study by Sherritt Gordon Research Centre on use of that firm's process on concentrate produced from Anaconda's property in New Brunswick. Supervised a solvent extraction/electrowinning pilot plant to remove and recover copper from a cupric ammonium-chloride etching solution. Performed laboratory tests and statistical analyses of the recoverable uranium in the copper oxide ore at Twin Buttes, AZ. This resulted in construction and successful operation of a uranium recovery plant.
