Formerly Big Nerd Ranch, rebranded 2023. Big Nerd Ranch's primary business is developer education, with a strong sideline in contract development. I have been on the contract development side for several years. I was originally hired for a product effort, but that fell through. BNR has been a tremendous place for me to grow my skills; it has a unique and wonderful culture.I have focused chiefly on macOS, iOS, watchOS and tvOS development, but have taken classes in Rails, Python, and Android, and used those skills for production projects. Big Nerd Ranch has a strong focus on Test-Driven Development and collaborative work, including fully peer-reviewed code.In my current role, I examine a struggling project and find fixes. They may be struggling due to bad processes, mismatched skillsets, bad expectations, or a number of other issues. I help the right people identify and correct the problems, and if I do it right, turn a struggling project into a success. I have architected and developed applications for cloud, mobile, and both, using a wide array of platforms and topologies.

Pivot Originals is a Black-oriented OTT streaming channel from award-winning director Bryan Barber. Bryan tapped me to help him select a platform, configure the applications, develop content management tools, and handle basic IT needs for the company.

Having seen a friend pirouette while filming a video, it occurred to me that I could use a smartphone's compass to trigger the camera every X degrees. I created an iOS app to do it. With my friend John Kastelic, we applied for the patent, and in 2018 I was assigned US Patent # 9,979,885 for the idea.

Designed and implemented a patient reporting system.

Assist the sales guy in closing the deal; write up the particulars in an SOW; explain to the back-end team how to implement; train the customer on the usage; triage issues for high-profile clients.

When I was hired, www.delta-air.com consisted of a static page and a simple lookup against a database table of regularly scheduled flights. When I left, www.delta.com was churning out $4MM/day in ticket sales. When I came back to the company as a vendor eight years later, they were celebrating the fact that a library I'd written had booked $20B in airline tickets. Given that Delta is a $50B/yr business, I can say I helped move the needle in a blue chip.

The primary role is on-site asset security, but there's regular policing too, and a smattering of soldier stuff. Excellent background in security concepts. During this period I also read a lot.
