I take great pride in helping our nonprofit tax exempt clients stay ahead of the curve. My main focus is in working with nonprofit tax exempt organizations such as hospitals and related healthcare entities, secondary and higher educational institutions, social service agencies, private foundations, conservation groups, museums, and so on. Recently I have been delving into the impact of tax reform on the nonprofit sector, both directly in terms of the new rules imposed on nonprofits and indirectly as it relates to charitable giving.In response to increased oversight activity by the IRS via audits and compliance checks, we have been performing readiness assessments (mock audits) for hospital clients to ensure their compliance with IRC Section 501(r) regulations. We have also noted an uptick in IRS interest related to rental and debt-financed activity.I present at seminars on a regular basis and have given many presentations to boards and local organizations regarding not-for-profit tax issues and other tax compliance matters. Although most of my career has been devoted to public accounting, I also have experience as the financial manager of a private healthcare consulting firm. As a Principal and member of the firm’s Tax Consulting and Compliance Group, I work with clients throughout New England, but primarily in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. I provide services mainly in the tax planning and compliance arena, including business and individual taxation as well as tax exempt reporting.
