About Barbara Nagle

Printing/project management and customer service is in my blood. It was my first job out of college and I feel fortunate to have seen the changes throughout the years both from a technology standpoint and from a quality standpoint. The bar has been raised in all areas. My early years as a Buyer in printing brought many trials. - I remember a calendar. The paper provided was not the same paper as the prototype supplied. The poorly taken pictures became pixilated. The turn time was tight. Luckily the customer was able to sell the calendars, as I suggested to them the idea that it gave it an artsy look. - I remember looking at the P&L for a 4/c catalog the company just produced. They had hired me as a Purchasing Manager. They paid an agent $35,000 for this 10,000 quantity catalog. I was able to save them about $18,000 the first day I was employed with them. There simply was no one on staff that understood the cost of printing.- I remember taking the chance that I could improve a cover of a book by removing all the yellow in the windows of a house and applying a fluorescent yellow in its place. That cover went on to win an award. I have experienced the joy of producing award winning products and I’ve experienced having to sticker thousands of brochures because of a customer error. All this does not take away the fact that there is nothing more rewarding than taking a blank piece of paper and transforming it into a sell-able product. Today as I am now writing procedures and training employees in quality assurance, I have a great understanding and knowledge of the printing processes and I know what the customer requires. While the actual printing process has not changed over the years (it still takes just 4 colors to print any product in offset printing), it’s not just about printing anymore. It’s about the innovative ideas of add-on features in processes we can bring to the customer.
