Graduated in Biochemistry at the Federal University of São João Del Rei (UFSJ), Msc in Health Sciences at UFSJ, and currently doing my PhD at Physics Institute of São Carlos at the University of São Paulo. Since the beginning of my academic life, I developed research projects in the preclinical malaria research field. I started my path learning how to synthesize natural compound derivatives and how to improve their potency.For my PhD, I embarked on an adventure of changing areas, from organic synthesis to antimalarial biological evaluation. My current project regards the antimalarial evaluation of natural and synthetic compounds to identify new chemical entities with promising inhibitory activity. Once a feasible compound is identified, the objective is to further investigate its antiplasmodial activity, improve its potency, and, if possible, determine its mode of action (MoA). In these last three years, I developed expertise in cell-based approaches to progress novel chemical entities into the preclinical pipeline, and I planned assays to study the MoA of these compounds. I am currently doing my PhD internship at the Australian National University, under the supervision of Dr. Adele Lehane. The idea of my internship is try to identify how the compounds I have been studying for the last three years kills the malaria parasite. Experience in molecular biology tools, cell culture techniques, DNA handling, gene expression analysis by PCR, and data analysis. Solid background in scientific research (+10 years), covering the preparation of reports and POPs; participation in national and international conferences.
