She created A Broken Angel with Chef Richard Hull and is behind the house-made sauerkraut, biscuits, and many of the desserts for special events—as well as event planning, the website, and social media. She dreams of opening a vegan teaching kitchen in Bend, Oregon accessible to individuals of all income levels, and where the next generation of plant-based chefs can come for immersive training. Barb also does creative, technical, and project management work for select nonprofit clients in nonviolent communication, animal protection, and plant-based food spaces. Fun facts: Barb spent most of a year in her twenties as an au pair (nanny) in Madrid, Spain—but please don’t test her on her Spanish. She’s also sometimes “recognized” from a small part in a 20-year-old forensic science murder mystery documentary.

The Center for Compassionate Living provides education and support for people who want to improve their compassionate communication (nonviolent communication) skills, deepen their self-understanding, and enrich their relationships. I developed and maintain the Center's website, events schedule, e-news, and social media.

Over 4+ years as a coordinator for Animal Place’s Food for Thought campaign, I had the opportunity to help transform Food for Thought from a fledgling program into a robust and impactful outreach campaign. I’m particularly proud of growing the Wildlife and Environmental arm of the campaign from scratch, including building and fine-tuning outreach strategy, creating related copy and design assets, project management, working closely with our donor and partner groups, and presenting on behalf of the program at industry conferences. Additionally, I enjoyed helping my small team develop and implement a new grants program for environmental, wildlife, and animal companion nonprofits.
