I've worked in the proteins industry for almost 17yrs, along with 5yrs in transportation before that.Being a Logistics & Supply Chain Specialist allowed me to closely work with all key departments, and closely learn process flow.I got my start in logistics working entry-level as a billing clerk at CCX, which is now XPO.By volunteering for any shift or position that needed to be filled, I not only showed management that I wasn't going to settle as a billing clerk; I proved to them I was capable of much more. Within 5yrs. I had worked and familiarized myself with every non-supervisory regular & dispatch office position at CCX. I found the career that I knew I wanted to retire from at CCX: Logistics and Transportation.It’s a great feeling to be in an industry and job that you love. Every day is fast-paced, different, and always brings new challenges; it’s what I thrive on and excel at. There are several key characteristics of a successful Logistics and Supply Chain Specialist, and I’m confident that I possess all:You must be trustworthy, accurate, and reliable: People rely on you. Your responsibility is to keep their business running efficiently. Their jobs and reputations are on the line. By not fulfilling your duties, not only are you harming them and their company - you’re also injuring your reputation, along with your employer’s. You must do everything you can to ensure that trust is not broken.Much like breathing, having the ability to be flexible and change course in a second should be a natural reaction for a Logistics and Supply Chain Specialist.Having a strong, analytical problem-solving skillset, and the ability to handle issues as they fly at you is needed. Thinking outside of the box is often your friend.Knowing how to work with all types of people and personalities is required to be an effective communicator and team leader. It not only helps build trust and teamwork but earns you respect along with a good reputation. Laughing and spreading humor during a stressful time is a great way to help your coworkers and colleagues.You also have to be able to multi-task, multi-task, AND multi-task.
