About Barend Steyn
I started my career at BHP Billiton Manganese in Hotazel where I worked at Wessels (mechanised underground mine) and Mamatwan (open cast mine). I was seconded to Goldfields to get experience with deep level gold mining and completed the full UG learnership to shiftboss level. I subsequently finished the BHP Billiton foundation for Graduates programme, joined Xstrata Elands Platinum mine in decline development and production rampup. In 2012 I started my consulting career at VBKom Consulting and subsequently WorleyParsons (Advisian).Since I collaborated in various technical mining and feasibility studies in coal-, anthracite-, copper-, manganese-, iron- (hematite and magnetite), gold -, aggregate -, and bauxite mining.In 2019 I joined AGA in Tanzania as an underground production specialist, to assist with the transition from contractor to owner operated mining, as well as providing technical training.Since 2021 I am the Principal Studies Lead for East Africa and Ghana, doing feasibility, capital and other mining studies. Reporting to the mining team, the LOM designs, quarterly reviews and strategic options all form part of my role.In 2023 I joined PAn African resources as group mine planning manager.
