About Bari Levin

I am a passionate advocate for individuals with learning differences and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). With over 34 years of experience in LD and ADHD advocacy, I have dedicated my career to making a positive impact in the lives of those with neuro-divergent learning styles. As the Executive Director of the I Am Able Foundation, I am committed to creating a more inclusive world by increasing the visibility of neuro-divergent learning styles through community and storytelling in schools and the workplace. Our organization has created I Am Able Empowerment groups in cities throughout the US to provide in-person hangouts and discussion groups aimed at increasing support and networking opportunities for participants. We are building a community to remove the stigma and misconceptions about ADHD, dyslexia, and other invisible learning disabilities. My 34 years of teaching experience as a special educator has equipped me with a deep understanding of the unique challenges that individuals with learning differences face. As a case manager for Individualized Education Plans (IEP) students, I developed and managed IEP's for students, taught reading and incorporated common core standards, and taught pre-algebra curriculum to 8th graders.Through my experience, I have been responsible for reviewing data to determine the effectiveness of both academic and behavior interventions resulting in an increase in overall testing scores and student growth over time. I collaborated with other teachers and parents to best meet the individual needs of each student and provided a safe environment for students to have both academic and social/emotional needs met.I am deeply committed to promoting awareness and understanding of learning differences and ADHD. If you are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable advocate for individuals with LD and ADHD, I would love to connect with you. Let's work together to make a positive impact in the lives of those with neuro-divergent learning styles.

Eye-To-Eye

Greater Chicago Area

Eye-To-Eye's mission is to develop a coalition of mentoring programs for labeled students with learning disabilities and to empower these individuals to celebrate their differences and help them find success. Eye-To-Eye's mentoring program is currently being implemented at Golf Middle School.July 2010 - At its July meeting, the Golf 67 School Board recognized Bari Levin for her efforts to develop and grow Golf’s Project Eye-To-Eye program which helps students with learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder by introducing them to adults who have successfully overcome similar challenges. The strategy of Project Eye-To-Eye is to create mentoring relationships between LD/ADHD students and adults, especially college students and graduates, who have overcome similar obstacles. “I think talking to someone who is aware of what they’re going through is huge for these students”, said Ms. Levin. According to a study by the Harvard Graduate School of Education, students who participate in the program show improved attitudes toward school and self-esteem and most important, show an increased desire to attend college.Ms. Levin has been part of the faculty at Golf Middle School for 20 years. While she may not have an actual job title which is appropriate for her unusual role at Golf, she considers herself a “special educator”.And though she never intended this description to be used in this way, we at Golf 67 Parent consider her to be a very “special” educator. We were impressed by her continuing passion for her students. In our conversation, Ms. Levin conveyed energy and enthusiasm for her role, and her comments often revealed the “extra-curricular” activities she undertakes to help our students who are confronting LD/ADHD become successful.by Phil Klafta (Golf School District #67 Parent)
