Fabrications is a design studio and shop specialising in contemporary textiles and design. Since opening it's doors, Fabrications has produced, promoted and sold sustainable and emotionally durable design pieces and services. Fabrications is a mini department store of creativity and delights, stocking items for the home, to wear, gifts, kits and books by other local designer makers as well as in house designer maker Barley Massey's one off and small batch creations. There is also a great habedashery section full of knitting and sewing supplies to fuel your own creativity. Fabrications is also a local dealer for 'Brother' sewing machines. A commissioning service and workshop programme is also offered all year round.

I have focussed my textile practise on sustainability and upcycling and have been pioneering this approach for over 25 years. I have worked with a variety of waste materials and a range of traditional textile techniques including weaving, sewing, knitting and ropemaking.Bicycle inner tubes sorced from local bike shops are transformed into woven cushions, matting, upholstery, wall + counter covers. 'Old' clothes also become cushions, covers and quilts or refashioned into 'New' clothing . Each piece is individual, a batch produced one off. I have been offering a service called 'Remember Me' which enables people to bring along cherished clothing or textiles to be remade into comforting items for the home, special gifts and long lasting memories. I am very proud of this service as it has brought a great deal of comfort and joy to the people thart have used it, especially when the piece uses clothing from a lost loved one.I am also passionate about passing on my creative skills, textile techniques and approach to sustainability to people of all abilities, from all walks of life. I have now facilitated 100's of workshops at museums (such as The Barbican, Hackney Museum, Maritime Museum, Royal Festival Hall) and at community events (such as The Thames Festival, Newham Mayor's show, Shoreditch festival) and with organisations (such as Beside - community mental health project, Hackney community college, The Guardian)As well as being 'out and about', I host a regular programme of classes and events at Fabrications.
