Total quality risk management, packaged simplistically, boils down to successful project management and logistics. Both of these stemming from a dedication to a continual improvement methodology. I believe productive risk management professionals must develop and hone the skills needed and gain the experience required for the industries they service. Internal risk management shouldn't be driven by regulation nor expectations of compliance, but rather a creative effort, utilizing every feasible option, while at the same time ensuring business unit production and efficiency are not degraded. The flawed belief in “safety first,” is no better a philosophy than those organizations who place profit and production above all else. The reality in this age of knowledge/technology is that a total quality/continual improvement approach can guarantee that all needs can be met equally, in every industry, across all business components.
