In my role as a software developer at Carel Controls, I gained extensive experience in the field of HCAV/R and process control for industrial and retail sectors. I was a part of the software development department, where my primary responsibilities included writing PLC logic software for dedicated Carel PLCs, creating user-friendly HMI layouts, and designing SCADA systems for building management. My experience in the field was broad and deep, and I gained a strong understanding of various control systems and their applications.Furthermore, I was responsible for troubleshooting and fixing any issues that arose with the systems. This required me to use my knowledge of the systems and my problem-solving skills to quickly identify and resolve any problems. This aspect of my job helped me to develop my analytical thinking and ability to work under pressure, which are skills that I believe would be valuable in any technical role.

I was a part of the drafting office at Hazleton Pumps, where I assisted other drafters in creating detailed machine drawings and provided support to machine operators. My role also included being a member of the IT team, helping other employees with any computer-related issues that arose. When I first started at Hazleton Pumps, I received training by assisting the assembly team in assembling slurry pumps on the shop floor. This was followed by further training on the operations of the drafting office and the Hazleton product ID system.After completing my training, I was appointed to be in charge of creating detailed data packs of the range of slurry pumps that Hazleton produces. This included using Autodesk Inventor to assemble the slurry pumps, following Hazleton's policies and specifications, drafting new parts as needed, creating full bill of materials, and producing drawings of the various machined parts. I also was responsible of passing off the full data pack to the procurement office.Working at Hazleton Pumps provided me with a unique opportunity to develop my technical and computer skills, as well as my ability to work in a team. The hands-on experience I gained in the assembly of slurry pumps and the detailed drawings helped me to develop a deeper understanding of the manufacturing process and the importance of accuracy and attention to detail in this field. This role also helped me to develop my problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

I served as a Junior Draughtsperson at AFST, where my main objective was to work under the guidance of the Senior Draughtsperson and complete various fire suppression projects. These projects were completed using several different 3D and 2D CAD packages including Autodesk Fusion 360, Inventor, and AutoCAD. My role was to contribute to the success of AFST by providing accurate and detailed illustrations for use by clients and technicians, and by following strict drawing register policies within the draughting office.I was also responsible for inspecting multiple machines and vehicles post-installation to ensure that AFST's installation policies and drawings were followed correctly. This role provided me with a valuable opportunity to learn the disciplines and practices of an efficient and well-organized draughting office. I aspired to further my draughting capabilities by taking on more intricate projects that would challenge my technical thinking and draughting skills.

As an intern at Advanced Fire Suppression Technologies (AFST), I was placed in the drafting office to gain hands-on experience and learn about the technical approaches used for fire suppression and detection. My role involved working under the guidance of a senior drafter, and I was trained to use various 3D and 2D CAD programs such as Fusion 360, Inventor, and AutoCAD efficiently. My supervisor provided me with tips and tricks that influenced my mindset as a technician.Throughout the internship, I worked on several projects for the mining sector within South Africa and abroad, providing me with an in-depth understanding of various disciplines such as hydraulics, automated lubrication on mining equipment, fire detection, and suppression. This was a part of my studies and an educational experience where I developed valuable technical skills and gained hands-on experience in the field.

During my studies, I was hired part-time as a "Technician Under Supervision" to take part in the design and construction of the TUT Sun Chaser III (Solar Car), including the carbon fibre body panels. As a team, TUT placed first in South Africa in the Sasol 2018 Challenge. My main task was to design and manufacture a safe battery containment unit, which required me to assemble and configure the battery management system and cells. The goal was to make it safe, modular and weight efficient.I was also appointed Chief Battery Safety Officer for the Sasol Solar Challenge 2018, where my main responsibility was to oversee the health of the battery during charging and discharging throughout the challenge. This role provided me with a unique opportunity to develop my technical skills, including hands-on experience in design, assembly, and problem-solving. It also helped me to understand the importance of safety in the field of electric vehicles, and to work well under pressure.

As a volunteer, I took on a project to construct a 6m x 2m movable aluminium bed for CNC machining the body panel molds of a solar car. The bed had to adhere to strict specifications regarding its carry load and size for the solar car.I was responsible for installing a KUKA robotic arm and designing a motor mounting system, as well as configuring the brushless motor for the KUKA CNC router. This project allowed me to develop my technical skills, including hands-on experience in construction, machine installation, and motor configuration. It also helped me to understand the importance of adhering to specifications and tight tolerances in the field of engineering and manufacturing.
