As a Division Officer on the USS Russell (DDG-59), I led a division of 12 sailors responsible for the maintenance and operation of two missile defense systems and the munitions stored within, totaling more than $500 million in strategic assets. I also coordinated ship-wide and fleet-wide training involving the simulated execution of land attacks using Tomahawk land-attack missiles.As officer of the deck I was responsible for the safe navigation of the ship and all 230+ sailors onboard through two deployments overseas totaling over 20,000 miles of underway steaming.I developed a program for the implementation and safe operation of a newly acquired laser defense system onboard US Navy vessels in Pear Harbor.
