After more than a decade, digitalpro has rebranded as IO to better reflect the current business. My role has also steadily changed from being an actual developer to running and growing the business. Upon my return to South Africa after many years commuting to Europe, I decided to make a go of digitalpro which my former business partner has kept afloat. I wanted to build something where I could implement my initial start-up ideas. This required a team but in the absence of funding this meant bootstrapping and doing a lot of the client work myself..

My business partner and I built seven startups that included ezsms, CellSeek and WebFax, but none of these were able to go very far because everyone in South Africa was still on slow dial-up Internet connections. At ISE, I travelled around Europe to implement in-room Internet access at five star hotels. We quickly adapted when Wifi came out and were one of the first businesses that could bill for this so hit the sweet spot.
