About Barry Drust

My expertise in football science is a product of my academic research and my practical experience within the sport. These skills provide the basis for the work that I currently complete in the areas of innovation is sports science, practitioner development and strategic research development.I am currently a professor at The University of Birmingham where I am the Director of the Graduate School of Sport and Professional Practice and programme lead the Doctorate in Sport and Exercise in The School of Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences. I have published over 180 peer-reviewed scientific articles in the area of exercise physiology which have provided valuable insights in the area of sports performance. I have also supervised in excess of 50 individuals for their doctorates. This activity positions me as an internationally recognised applied sport scientist and an experienced research supervisor/mentor to individuals focused on their professional development.. I currently also act as a sport science/research consultant for elite sports organisations. These include roles in elite football (e.g. Rangers Football Club, Liverpool Football Club and the England Senior Mens Football team), national associations (e.g. The Association of Sporting Directors) and commercial companies (e.g. Nike). I am also actively involved in directing the research related CPD of a number of other staff at clubs in both the Premier and Football League and football organisations internationally.
