Test Engineer for Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) Data Processing and Archive System (DPAS). Level 4 - Formal Qualification Tests of the DPAS system. I started with the requirements, designed appropriate test cases, integrated the system and executed the tests to verify the requirements. These tests were generally in the Image Assessment Subsystem (IAS) and Level 1 Product Generation Subsystem (LPGS) areas.

Assisted in setting up an off-site facility for Business Development, including coordination with SGT and facilities management, furnishings and IT work. My duties were to set up training sessions, provide facilities and support for other business development projects and strategize business development activities. I provided direct engineering inputs in two major bids. One was cancelled by the prime contractor, but the other led to a successful TSSC contract at EROS.

Lead System Engineer - significant staffing and work management activities, in addition to normal engineering processes primarily Trade Studies, support to decision making, project planning for the LP DAAC which is part of NASA’s Earth Observing System Data Information System (EOSDIS). The LP DAAC contains over a Petabyte of multi-spectral data from the ASTER and MODIS sensors aboard the Terra and Aqua spacecraft.

During the last 9 months of this detail, my duties as Sustaining Engineering Element Lead involved significant staffing and work management activities, in addition to managing the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the LP DAAC, a 1.3 Petabyte archive which had distributed more than a Petabye of data at this time. Although challenged by decreasing staff and loss of crucial staff, a number of deliveries were verified and installed in Operations with no significant problems. Several major operational efforts were also hugely successful.From August 2005 to January 2006, I was the Acting Engineering and Development Manager handling the technical side of the position as well as positioning the organization for the future, transitioning to a development (versus operational) footing. This involved significant budget and staffing activities.Worked on a study of new architectures for large scale data storage and managed a team effort to create a new Low cost Data Archive and Distribution System (LoDADS). This study led to a Test Bed activity which proved that the concepts proposed were valid and feasible on commodity hardware. Developed and implemented a Project Book documentation structure for the organization. Transitioned the Planning and Scheduling duties to others. Took over the project duties for the System Engineering Element.

Primary function: External Interfaces Engineer for ECS at the EROS Data Center (EDC). Involves coordination with a number of entities, both commercial and governmental to acquire, archive and distribute satellite data of various types and amounts. Developed and implemented a Project Management structure for the organization. Took over the Planning and Scheduling activities for the overall organization. Took over the progress reporting for the System Engineering Element.Prepared the ECS facility at EDC for its role in the Aqua spacecraft ground system.Responsible for Security Engineering during the upgrade of ECS systems to new security standards.

Completed integration and checkout of Landsat 7 Satellite Ground Station and Data Handling Facility.This organization supported the successful launch and on-orbit checkout of Landsat 7.Transitioned the Data Handling Facility from development to operations.Ultimately took responsibility, on behalf of my government customer, for approximately 2 million LOC, more than $5 million worth of ground-based assets, and a 40+ person staff, including Satellite system operators, system support people, calibration analysts and engineers.This was recognized by local Raytheon management with a Performance Excellence Award in 1999.
