Devops Consultant for Childcare Choices (NS&I/HMRC) – August 2016 to December 2022Providing application support and developing new features and emergency fixes and service improvements using devops and agile methodologies. It is vital that the website is accessible 24/7 so I have been involved in remediation work at unsociable times. The launch of the application was plagued by various issues which has meant that I had to work hard to assist in stabilising the system. However, it has improved due to the continuous rollout of fixes and features. This is also while seeking to improve the existing service using various automation techniques. I have also deployed releases to the production environment both out of hours (when access to the website is prevented) or as rolling daytime releases (for smaller bug fixes). I also participate in an on call rota.Robotic Process Automation – March 2016 to December 2016.Design and develop automation workflows for onerous and repetitive tasks both for Atos’s customers and for internal processes. New features and defect fixes are also developed, tested and deployed onto the live system. I am the team expert on Oracle Service Bus and SOA Suite which are extensively used on the applications. I am the deputy team leader for a team of 10 people. This role covers appraisal management, supporting the team leader in day-to-day activities and standing in as team leader when absent. The application was decommissioned in 2016 after a review by the Home Office.

A major customer used Opti-Time to manage contractors appointments. Up until then, a job was raised in the application, but the user had to open Opti-Time to make the appointment. However, this development automated this process when a job is created. A request is made to create, amend or delete an appointment via a file written to a folder polled by the Opti-Time application. From this the most suitable appointment is determined by that application. My role on this project was to develop this aspect of the system by writing generic “hooks” within the main applications (Visual Basic 6) that call a bespoke workflow process (VB Script, SQL Server 2008) to create and output a file to be picked up by Opti-Time.

My responsibilities were to develop software modules and to co-ordinate development to ensure that was delivered on time. I managed the releases to integration and system test environments. Finally, I supported the testing activities, providing assistance and software changes where required. I also supported the deployment of the software to the production environment and provided support during its warranty period in accordance with our Service Level Agreement.September 2008 – June 2010 Vetting and Barring Scheme ProjectThis was a major project within CRB as a direct response to the Bichard enquiry. My role was Senior Oracle Middleware developer. I was extensively involved in developing complex PL/SQL stored procedures from design through code to unit testing and supporting the system testing phase. I was assigned SOA development to create ESBs and BPELS for a system to manage messages that were to be passed between the CRB system and an outside body.June 2008 – August 2008 Configuration ManagementDue to delay in a major software project, I was seconded to the Configuration Management team which is part of the Service Delivery department at the CRB. Adverse circumstances meant that I had no option to learn the role by doing it. My tasks included software patch delivery to the DBA team, environment management including regular meetings with programme and project managers. This was a very intensive role but very enjoyable. My work was also appreciated and I was awarded with the quarterly MVP award.
