I was in the consulting electrical engineering and design field for over twenty five years before moving to the utilities world. My main experiences were in power generation, oil and gas, nuclear services, transmission and distribution, food processing, commercial, hospital, and more. I have knowledge of several industry accepted practices as well as software based modeling systems from 3D modeling to distribution systems modeling including Revit, PDS, Smartplant Electrical, CDEGS, SKM and ETAP. Alaska and California Electrical PE.I am currently the Manager of Substations and Metering in the Technical Services Department of Matanuska Electric Association, Inc. MEA is a member owned Co-op serving approximately 60,000 members ranging from Eagle River, AK to north of Denali and past Chikaloon along the Glen Allen Highway.

I am responsible for managing all of MEA's 21 substations, the Transformer Shop, and the Commercial Metering shop. We cover operations, maintenance, and repairs for all large Power Transformers as well as the several thousand distribution transformers through the MEA network. Our metering shop is responsible for nearly 2,000 three phase commercial meters and meter installations.

I managed the daily operations of two generation facilities with a combined total of 16.1MW of capacity and the electrical distribution systems that serve power to the Ft. Richardson side of Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson. We operate a 7.1 MW primary power station that is fueled by landfill gas. It's the only generation facility of its kind in the State of Alaska. We provide an average of 75% of the demand for Ft. Richardson on an annual basis and approximately 25% of the total demand for JBER as a whole. We also operate 9MW of diesel back up generation.

My role was as a project lead and electrical engineer. I'm assigned projects by our department manager and my role is to perform engineering tasks and manage a small team working on the project. Projects can vary from small service type jobs where we may only be replacing a breaker to design of a large 300,000 square foot manufacturing/warehouse facility. We also serve hospitals, hotels, data centers, and retail outlets. My specific responsibilities include design and engineering, submittal review, client interface, code review, and schedule coordination. I am responsible for ground up electrical systems design for the distribution and associated systems. I am also responsible for providing short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, and arc flash studies and reports for clients. I regularly use ETAP, SKM Power Tools and Revit in our design process.

Projects we work on vary from 10MW generation additions for 2 processing pads on the North Slope to small refinery additions throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Functioned as an electrical engineer for a prototype flue gas scrubber project designed to function on a 150MW coal power plant. My role was to design and locate all medium voltage switchgear and coordinate the operation and control of the gear. I also modeled the system in ETAP to run load flow, short circuit, and relay coordination. Finally, I was responsible for revising the plant control panel in areas that were affected by the addition and relocation of the switchgear and associated equipment. I was tasked in a lead role for electrical while we developed a proposal as part of a joint venture with Haskell-Davis to provide EPC services for the George Sullivan Plant in Anchorage.

Worked as a PDS designer using EE_Raceway and PD_Equip. Worked as principle design engineer on small to medium industrial and commercial facilities projects. Performed power quality studies to trouble shoot for clients. I was the contact point for metering and test equipment for the electrical department responsible for programming and training others to use the equipment.
