Worked technology development programs for improved performance of gas turbine engine augmentors. Led a 6 person in-house research team in conducting basic and applied research of thermoacoustics and bluff body stabilized flames. Conducted modeling and experimental testing of bluff body stabilized flames using high speed laser diagnostics to better understand flame stability. Secured funding for $1.5M first of it’s kind simultaneous 10 kHz Planer Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) laser system to assessing flame stability. Investigated the cause and effect relationship between chemistry, geometry, flame stability and acoustics on thermoacoustic coupling. Led a 22 member research team in the improvement of models for the prediction of chemical kinetics for JP-8, JET A and alternatively derived jet fuels. Improved model accuracy by a factor of 4. Found key underlying aspects of fuel properties and their effect on flame speed, ignition delay, breakup and atomization. -

Increased rig and facility instrumentation 4 fold. Enable full scale assessment of realistic augmentor geometries at relevant conditions. Established an improved understanding of bluff body stabilized flames.Lead for combustor applied development projects for the Integrated High Performance Turbine Engine Technology (IHPTET) Program. Conducted project management of novel combustor concepts. Sheparded successful combustor development to applied technology demonstrators to meet the IHPTET III goal set. AFRL combustor technical team lead to support the F-22 and F-35 propulsion program offices.
