Chief Engineer

Princeton Identity

Pawcatuck, Ct

Transitioned from SRI to Princeton Identity as part of the spin-off company from SRI. Concept creator and technical lead for the iris biometric readers at Princeton Identity. The low-cost modular product design reduces component counts and assembly costs while providing a faster and easier user experience with greater reliability than competing products. Activities included capturing requirements, system decomposition, balancing design trades, coordinating the development efforts, providing risk assessment, risk mitigation strategies, and technical transfer to contract manufacturers for production.

Aug 2016 - Aug 2018

Senior Systems Engineer

Stonington, Ct

Technical lead for the mobile iris recognition technology and algorithms at SRI that lead to the successful deployment in Samsung's mobile devices and ultimate spin-off of Princeton Identity. Worked to balance accuracy, processing loading, user experience, safety, customer expectations, and dozens of other elements needed to produce a solution that will be accepted by millions of users. Successfully met the aggressively scheduled milestones throughout the program by identifying team members strengths and putting them in positions where they would excel.Team leader for software design and development of embedded iris processing platform. Bare metal design used to meet extremely fast (< 200 ms) boot time requirements on Freescale iMX6 series processor. Implemented encrypted high assurance boot to ensure protection of software algorithms and customer biometric information. Fixed existing code in unsupported BSP, added drivers for new hardware components, designed concurrent processing stages, and leveraged multiple hardware accelerator blocks in the system-on-module.Involved in the design and implementation of multiple products including biometric iris security, geospatial visualization fusion, and common operating picture situational awareness.

Nov 2012 - Aug 2016

Principal Engineer

New London, Ct

Technical lead for the design and development of multiple real-time low-latency wavelet based video codecs and products. The fully compliant ANSI C libraries maximizes cross compilation and dynamic optimization for a wide range of processors including desktop computers, embedded processors, digital signal processors (DSPs). Expanded capabilities to include multi-resolution support. This allows for dynamic bandwidth control, reduced computational loading, higher error concealment properties, improved network overlap for minimal latency, and efficient multicore processing. Imaging subject matter expert for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Code 34. Provided system analysis, hardware design, and software algorithm solutions. Provided guidance on image enhancements, compression techniques, bandwidth estimates, and other areas to meet key performance metrics. Facilitated transitions from lab to Fleet through lab integration and dockside installation oversight. Lead on diagnostic and tiger teams to localize faults and improve designs. Technical lead of a rapid prototyping team developing a RACON. Responsible for coordinating the design efforts between the teamed companies. This included partitioning of the system, defining interfaces, and refining requirements. Also responsible for the design and fabrication of the digital subsystem and mechanical design with our local engineering team. We went from requirements to our first successful integration test in less than 5 months.Key member implementing an ISO and CMMI compliant quality system. Participated in over a dozen ISO audits and SCAMPI appraisals internally and as an independent appraisal member at other companies.Hired into A&T in January 2000 as a Staff Engineer which was bought by Anteon a year later. Rapidly promoted to Principal Engineer, skipping a level, in 2006 at Anteon. General Dynamics bought Anteon in 2006 and immediately divested groups that Alion purchased the same year.
