Instrument TechnicianMaersk Oil Oct 2005 - Jan 2011Global Producer 3, North SeaWas employed by Petrofac on the GP3 FPSO as a Instrument Technician. I worked as part of a small team who carry out all the platform Instrument and Telecoms maintenance. The vessel was just out of refurbishment and I have been involved in carrying out the commissioning side of all new process/marine instrumentation and F+G systems whilst maintaining all the existing equipment. The SCADA system on GP3 is Silvertech which is a Fanuc PLC based system. Instruments worked on here vary greatly from Rosemount/Yokogawa transmitters, guided wave and ultrasonic level transmitters, ultrasonic flow measurement, ESDV’s of various types and designs, switches of various types and designs, here we integrate the Hart enabled equipment with the 375 communicator, the fire and gas system onboard is an Autronica system that carries out loop polling to the end of line devices. On the marine side the control system is Converteam (Alstom) and also a DP system which has input sensors which are maintained. -

I have achieved my SVQ 3 in engineering maintenance, which has ranged from basic training to interrogating complex instrument and analyser systems. My training has covered many aspects of the job including fault finding and calibration of these instrument and analyser systems. Analyser experience ranged from GC’s, PH, Conductivity, moisture, Infra- Red gas analysers, laboratory work and various other gas analysers i.e. o2/nox and sox checks. Through my enthusiasm and progression I earned Esso’s Apprentice of the Year in 2005.
