My post-doctoral fellowship at NUI Galway had a strong commercialization focus, incorporating medical device development, clinical testing, intellectual property development, funding application, medical device certification, teaching and student supervision. Medical Device development: Technical lead on two full medical device product development cycles from concept, to design, development, clinical evaluation and medical device certification (class 2B). Both products contained connected health elements and had applications in the area of chronic venous disease, deep vein thrombosis prevention and Parkinson's disease.Clinical testing: Designed and implemented several clinical studies that evaluated the treatment effects and usability of technologies I had previously designed in the area of deep vein thrombosis prevention and chronic venous disease. This has led to me authoring 11 journal publications and presenting at 7 international conferences. Innovation: Led the technical design of a non-invasive venous pressure sensor for chronic venous disease management. This project securing state investment of €330k in commercialization funding and has been patented.Grants: participated in acquiring over €500,000 in research funding from Irish and European sourcesTeaching: Course designer and lecturer of 4 modules in the areas of embedded systems and electrical engineeringSupervision: Co-supervisor of 1 PhD student and undergraduate engineering project supervisor to 8 students and interns.
