I joined Poggio Labs, an early-stage startup, to scale the team as we built a data-connected CRM to take on Salesforce and Hubspot. We onboarded some world-class customers and iterated rapidly on the CRM product, before eventually sunsetting the CRM and resetting our efforts, focusing on a new AI product.At Poggio I really enjoyed working with generative AI, and working closely with our engineering team leads on product delivery and people management. I also implemented our engineering career ladder and improved our planning, hiring, onboarding, promotion, and growth conversation processes.

I continued my role leading the engineering team at Trello after we were acquired by Atlassian. Now with fun new challenges!Our team grew in size as Atlassian invested in Trello—from 40 engineers up to 200. I’m most proud of the fact that throughout a lot of change and big company integration, we continued to be a beloved product and an incredible place for top engineers to work. This is testament to the experience and care of Atlassian leadership, and the thoughtful work of our talented team at Trello.While on the Atlassian-wide CTO Leadership Team, I got the chance to be a part of making foundational changes across a huge organization. I was on the core team who defined Atlassian Engineering’s job levels, definitions, and processes for promotion. I also rolled out an Apprentice Engineering Manager program at Trello, which influenced a subsequent Atlassian-wide program, where I trained many classes of new managers.

Collaboration takes place in Trello, GitHub, Slack, Google Docs, Zoom, and infrequent in-person get togethers.• Engineering management at Trello is a support function, with developers running the show.A few projects that I’m proud of:• With the VP of Product, led a shift to cross-functional teams—teams including a mix of developers, designers, and product managers focused on areas of the business like Monetization, Enterprise, and New User Experience.• With the help of many, maintained a focus on fantastic relationships between the engineering team and other teams we frequently work with, like Product, Design, Sales, Marketing, Ops.• Grew the engineering team from 20 to 40 people, redefining our hiring process along the way, focusing it on making technical interviews map as close as possible to work candidates will be doing on the job.• Defined engineering management at Trello, with a strong focus on it being a support function. Mentored our engineering management team as it grew from 2 to 6.

Led the development of web products at DoSomething.org, coordinating a team of 12 awesome engineers with product, design and business teams.We worked in small cross-functional teams, utilizing GitHub, Slack, Trello, and Google Hangouts for highly effective remote working. Fun fact: as a non-profit, 100% of the code DoSomething.org write is open sourced!My role included a number of responsibilities:• Managing the redesign and rebuild of the DoSomething.org website, translating organizational strategies into engineering and UI specs.• Fulfilling the scrum master role in all of our standup meetings, focusing on doing whatever it takes to unblock engineers and move projects forward as quickly as possible.• Conducting weekly 1-on-1 meetings with 12 of our engineers, focusing on team happiness, workload prioritization, and improving our development process via continuous feedback.• Facilitating sprint planning, sprint retrospective and developer roundtable meetings.• Developing insights from usability testing, analytics and split testing into engineering specifications to drive improvements to UX.One of my favorite parts of working at DoSomething was running our technical hiring process. As part of this work I:• Constructed a hiring funnel that allows us to screen out unsuitable candidates as early as possible in the hiring process, saving our engineering team a lot of time in interviews.• Created job descriptions, with a focus on inclusive language.• Worked with engineers to develop coding interviews, specifically designed to mirror the actual work that engineers work on at DoSomething.• Facilitated code reviews with groups of our engineers.• Established relationships with NYC based organizations like Flatiron School and C/I that serve minorities in tech, diversifying our hiring pipeline.

Hands-on lead of the front-end development team working on the DoSomething.org platform.I led development for the HTML/Sass/Compass/Javascript Drupal template that we used as the base for 30+ campaign websites per year.During my time at DoSomething I was a proponent for emerging technologies in front-end development—particularly responsive design, style guide driven development, and in-browser prototyping.

As a professional online poker player I generated a >$100,000 bankroll without ever depositing money. I logged over 1 million hands of poker and was consistently profitable in mid/high-stakes no-limit hold'em games. I developed a coaching business, and enjoyed coaching over 50 students in regular 1:1 sessions. These personalized training sessions focused on: data interpretation and metrics, poker strategy problem solving, and personal performance/mindset coaching. This resulted in an average of four-fold increase in their monthly earnings.I was fortunate to be able to set up a working base in many countries, that I used to explore the world from. I spent time working from Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Argentina, the UK, and the USA.

I worked on Grand Theft Auto 4 from start to finish. I owned several core missions including: car chases, gunfights, helicopter missions, and the darts mini game.GTA IV is the 2nd highest rated video game of all time with a 98/100 score on metacritic. Upon release it was also the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning US$310 million in its first day and US$500 million in its first week.Development was done in RAGE scripting language (similar to Lua). We used a highly iterative development process, continuously prototyping and incorporating both qualitative and quantitative feedback from testers, stakeholders and pre-release customer interviews. This was every bit as fun as it sounds! I got to solve novel mathematics, artificial intelligence, and physics programming problems on a daily basis.
