I worked at Dell as a Principal Storage Engineer in Dell Software Group. Most recently I developed storage management software in Java and C# concentrating on developing REST-based servers. This is for the Dell DL line of backup appliances (AKA AppAssure/RapidRecovery).Previously I worked as tech lead/architect/developer on core/framework technology for a complex, distributed storage management web-application using JEE, REST, SOA, OSGi and MongoDB running on Jetty/Tomcat. I created, from scratch, a highly-scaleable, distributed, maintainable and easy-to-develop-to platform. I created a working framework of over 45KLOC in less than six months’ time. I worked extensively with the product architecture team to ensure the implement-ability of the architecture. I also worked providing tools for my team and storage management applications for various Dell products. I use C# /Java, XML, JSON, REST and other protocols to develop REST-based servers and associated clients using Java Swing. Also created InstallAnywhere-based installers and build tools.

I previously worked in IBM's Human Ability and Accessibility Center, a part of IBM Research. In the HA&AC we help IBM make its products usable by all people, especially those with disabilities. We also work with government agencies and other bodies in defining accessibility standards and regulations. I worked to develop tools to help IBM manage its accessibility enablement tasks. Mostly concentrating on web-based tools using Servlets, JSPs and AJAX via Dojo using Websphere Application Server and DB/2.

Designed and authored Java application/runtime to translate and host millions of lines of legacy code allowing the bank to retain legacy software investments while moving forward to a Java-base future. Saved the bank at least $20,000,000 in conversion costs. Solution rolled out bank wide. Resulting patents.Lead team of major British bank developers to develop a proof-of-concept prototype in Java using JFC/Swing that allows both new Java applications and the bank's preexisting C applications to run concurrently under a single common shell. Based on this prototype, the bank implemented full scale re-engineering of their teller systems.Jointly lead major Spanish bank team to evaluate re-engineering its branch teller system; lead team to develop a proof-of-concept prototype of the new solution replacing proprietary and obsolete 4GL solution with a Java-based solution.Re-engineered a major American bank check image viewing application utilizing Swing, Java 2D and distributed CORBA-based communication. Allowed bank-wide replacement of expensive dedicated hardware with standard non-dedicated PCs. Jointly lead a major American railroad team to re-engineer mission critical timekeeping and productivity statistics applications. Provided architectural/design leadership, development and object technology mentoring. The applications (serving over 4000 engineering teams) are Java-based fat clients with client RDBMS and MOM for disconnected operation. The customer won a CIO-100 award for technology and process integration from CIO Magazine for this project.
