About Barry Forman, Md/Phd

Barry Forman MD, PhD is currently a Professor and Director of the Department of Gene Regulation & Drug Discovery Research at City of Hope where he holds an endowed chair. Dr. Forman has broad experience in studying nuclear receptors and their ligands including PPARs, FXR, LXR, PXR/SXR, CAR and ERR and how they contribute to treating diabetes, atherosclerosis, cancer and other disorders. Dr. Forman was the first to identify certain ligands for FXR (bile acids), PPAR γ (thiazolidinediones), CAR, ERR & HNF4. He is interested in the concept of selective modulation of nuclear receptors and the first to report selective modulation of FXR. Dr. Forman has published over 60 papers and has received elite honors including the 2005 ASBMB-AMGEN New Investigator Award and was invited by the Nobel Assembly of the Karolinska Institute to speak at a Nobel Conference. Dr. Forman has consulted for Daiichi-Sankyo, Metagenics, Merck, Allergan, Esperion, Immusol, Millenium & other companies.
