About Barry Friedman
With 18 years of experience in renewable energy and energy efficiency, Barry was the lead for the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Market Transformation program, executing ongoing research, analysis, and publishing on U.S. and global solar markets and policies, as Senior Analyst with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Barry has extensive renewable energy consulting and publishing experience, as well as proven experience with project team management, organizational development, and systems thinking. More recently, Barry served as an expert solar witness and Of Counsel at Oakland-based Keyes, Fox & Wiedman. Barry now brings his renewable energy expertise to public and private clients. Barry is admitted to practice law in NY, Colorado, and the U.S. District Court for the SDNY. During his 7 year tenure at NREL, Barry also served as the U.S. lead developing a program of cooperative renewable energy and energy efficiency research, development, and deployment between the U.S. and Israel. Barry is a 2011 recipient of the NREL President's Award in recognition of supporting the creation of the SunShot Initiative, and is currently a member of the Green-e Governance Board for the San Francisco, Ca.-based Center for Resource Solutions. He served for 3 years on the Solar Instructor Training Network Board of Advisers and on the Board of the Environmental Tracking Network of North America. Prior to his years at NREL, Barry published numerous papers on renewable energy and energy efficiency markets and policies as Research Manager at Boulder, Colorado-based E Source/Platts for 9 years. He also served as Director of Resource Development for Renewable Choice Energy.Specialties: Solar energy policy and markets analysis, workforce development, energy efficiency, law, international relations (focus on U.S.-Israel cleantech collaboration).
