I work with the laboratories of Dr. Mark Yandell and Dr. Karen Eilbeck. My work with these groups covers a broad range of research topics that could be generally collected under the umbrella of genomics. I am currently involved in project and collaborations involving comparative genomics, genome annotation, biomedical ontologies human polymorphism analysis, regulation of transcription and biomedical imaging informatics. In addition I help keep our labs running smoothly and mentor graduate students.

I worked in the laboratories of Dr. Raymond Gesteland and Dr. John Atkins. My work was broadly focused on the phenomenon of translational recoding whereby the genetic code is temporarily modified by signals in the mRNA to allow the ribosome to readthrough stop codons, shift frame and in some cases skip portions of the message. I employed a wide range of molecular biology and biochemical skills including cloning and expression of heterologous proteins, LC-MS-MS, and western analysis and many others. The last few years of my work with these groups involved an increasing amount of bioinformatics analysis and led ultimately to my transition to the field of bioinformatics entirely.
