Throughout my career, I've been looking to complement a strong theoretical background in mechanical engineering with practical experience. Most of my past activities relate to combustion, heat recovery, energy/electricity production, (flue) gas cleaning, and emission monitoring.Starting out as a project engineer on solid waste incineration, I conducted applied research to support product improvements and operated as lead process responsible at an industrial facility. Gradually, I accumulated expertise and developed to a technical expert on waste treatment with an elaborate international network and a considerable list of publications. The shift in focus in the field of waste treatment from mere disposal to maximal production of renewable energy directed my attention to energy management and energy efficiency. After spending a decade in waste management, my interest in sustainability and energy management in general prompted me to discover these topics on a wider scale. Subsequently, I worked for five years as principal consultant on Energy Efficiency and Energy Management for a wide variety of industrial end-users around the world. In this role, I developed a standardized portfolio of services aimed at effectively overcoming the barriers to energy performance improvement in industry. Over the years, the unit that I provided leadership to successfully delivered well over 50 projects to industrial customers in different sectors (oil & gas, petrochemical, food & beverage, steel, non-ferro, construction, pulp & paper, etc).Keen on applying the knowledge that I accumulated as a consultant, I moved back to "industry" where I'm currently the Energy & Environmental Manager for a complex and integrated chemical production site in the Port of Antwerp.Specialties: broad technical basis of energy production, consumption & management; combination of theoretical understanding & solid practical experience; networking; technical writing & presenting
