In 24+ years of reporting and anchoring the news, I have learned that it's not all that different than construction, medicine, professional sports, or any other industry. If you work hard, pay close attention to detail, constantly work to improve yourself, and never settle for mediocrity, you will succeed. In the news business, that applies to the writing, photography, editing, and presentation of a story. Poor performance in any of those areas can bring down the quality of a story significantly, and sometimes fatally. I have carried that understanding with me when covering every homicide, hurricane, blizzard, bridge collapse, election, and electrocution. It has resulted in numerous awards over the years, but more importantly the respect of my coworkers and colleagues.Reporting the news has educated me on a wide range of issues and events, and I have gained extensive experience working with public affairs professionals, first responders, elected leaders, and various government agencies at all levels.My personal interest in both aviation and videography has also lead me to earn my commercial drone pilot's license from the FAA, which remains active.
