Antwerp Area, Belgium

The project Innovation and Excellence in Education (PIEO) was commissioned by the Flemish Minister of Education, led by the King Baudouin Foundation. The project wants to look for new ways of achieving greater learning gains, better learning performance and a higher welfare of pupils. The intention is to see the results from the pilot projects in 13 innovation schools and transfer them to other Flemish schools.

Lusaka, Zambia

Worked as VVOB advisor ICT, Zambia. The core task of the Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance (VVOB) in Zambia is to provide technical assistance with the Ministry of Education (MOE) in a “Teacher Training Support programme” (2008-2013). The VVOB-MOE multiyear programme mainly focuses on 3 routes to quality teaching and learning: Continuous Professional Development (CPD), Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) and ICT integration in education. We have established Knowledge Centres to allow access to millions of online and offline learning resources and established a innovation tech hub to build mobile apps and services for education, health, business etc. (Co-founder Bongo Hive)

Antwerp, Belgium

Operated as an educational technologist at Antwerp University. As part of the e- Campus I gave first line support to lecturers and students on Blackboard, the online platform of the university. This included the writing off manuals and tutorials, designing and facilitating trainings on E-Learning, linking the technological environment to new pedagogical approaches. The main challenge was to inspire lecturers in the ‘good educational use’ of Blackboard and to support educational innovations projects at the University of Antwerp.

Hanoi, Vietnam

Worked as a project advisor in the IMIH project. The ‘Implementing Information and Communication Technology in schools of Hanoi’ project aimed to support the process of implementing ICT in schools of Hanoi, in order to improve the quality of management and active teaching and learning (ATL) in Hanoi schools. The main objectives of the IMIH project was the capacity building for teachers and managers of 17 kindergartens, primary, lower secondary and vocational schools. The project followed the ICT development stages, from infusing stage until transforming stage. The focus was not on ‘learning about technology’ but on ‘using technology to learn’. Therefore, ICT and ATL were linked to the curriculum (subjects) and to trans-curricular activities (Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development).

Kenya

Functioned as a project advisor in a VVOB project to establish the Higher Diploma in Educational Management (HDEM). It was to provide trainees with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to administer and manage training programmes and institutions in Kenya. The institution adopted an open learning philosophy and an open learning centre was established to cater for the HDEM programme provided via a mixed mode delivery. The design of quality learning materials and the integration of ICTs, Gender and HIV/AIDS issues in the learning manuals was the core activity of the Learning Resource Centre Project. More than 500 pre-and in-service teachers have been offered training in basic ICT skills and more advanced ICT integration skills. Then, the focus of the capacity building programme changed to workshops on problem-based learning, case-based learning, competency oriented learning, project-based learning. Approx. 100 teacher educators have been trained in HIV/AIDS attitude training.

Operated as a junior project manager of the ‘De Stichting voor Kunstpromotie’ (SKP), a pioneer in Belgium on culture sponsoring. Developed and organised artistic and cultural events, workshops and seminars for the Business and Arts Club (Approx. 180 big and small firms).
