1975 – 1977 I was employed by the Social Service Commission and for Justice and Peace commission of the Rhodesian (now Zimbabwe) Catholic Bishops Conference. Also I was treasurer for a relief program financed by the EU. Those years I have learned what it means to do your job in a war environment 1977 – 1982 Employed by Cebemo (now Cordaid), a Dutch organization financing development projects. I advised on the budgets and on the relation between activities and financial resources of projects. I was the internal consultant for organizational change and introduced new financial- and organizational systems. In those years I have learned to understand development as a two way system (we do not appreciate enough what we can learn from partners in the southern hemisphere) 1982 – 1986 I worked at the Auditor general’s office of the Netherlands. I was involved in major investigations in public spending on the elderly. This report was published by the Lower House (Tweede Kamer) of Dutch Parliament. Those years have taught me how government and government institutions operate. 1987 – 2002 Worked as business consultant for two leading consultancy firms: EMCI and Rijnconsult. During specific periods he managed market groups of these consultancy firms. As consultant and expert I was responsible amongst other things interim manager of a unit of PTT Post. I introduced a new concept in the social security system of the Netherlands: het bedrijfsverzamelgebouw. I was project manager of a project for the integration of new-comers in the 4 major cities in the Netherlands. Al these and other assignment have taught me how complex organizations function and which factors attribute to success and which to failure.
