Resolution Life as part of life insurance separation project needed to rebuild some of the legacy applications written in COBOL to the target platform, OutSystems. Utilising his knowledge of COBOL and data requirements, Bart was involved in transitioning the build requirements from complex and repetitive code to a more concise SQL and database logic.

MLC has completed one of the largest projects in the finance sector to separate life insurance business from NAB including major applications and data migration. Bart was a member of the Data and Products assurance team which assured the data was complete and accurate as sourced from NAB and fit for purpose in the target state solution. Bart was involved in incrementally improving the process, standards, and libraries of data testing scripts by proposing and implementing new tools and techniques.Bart also designed and implemented several one-off solutions for challenging migration issues.Bart was also in revising the integration of the Reinsurance system with the new MLC systems which he was involved in the original development for NAB (see below).

Bart was a Lead Data Specialist in the implementation of a new Work and Asset Management Enterprise system based on Oracle. This system was part of a corporate Business Transformation Program including revising the work processes and and uplift to utilise map and mobile technology. Bart was key in the development of data models for a complex Asset Hierarchy for the entire Canberra water network. Additional work was identifying and documenting multiple legacy systems as candidates for integration and conversion to the new system.Bart was also key in managing the data migration of core asset data. Bart developed, implemented, and reconciled data to be migrated to the new system using Oracle Data Integrator, XML and web services.

Nab Melbourne

National Australia Bank has multiple life and income protection insurance products. The insurance risk is ceded to third party reinsurance companies who pay a percentage of claims in return for a portion of premiums. NAB manages the Claims and payments for these products in multiple computer systems. To better manage the reporting to the reinsurance companies, NAB developed an Oracle database with a .NET web interface to consolidate the information from the various systems. The resulting system reduced time to generate reports with increased accuracy and greater consistency.As a skilled database specialist Bart was the primary team member responsible for database design and modeling, assisting in analysis, SQL performance, overseeing PL/SQL development, data integration, data loading, data reconciliation between the systems, test data production and problem solving.Technologies used: Oracle database 11gR2, Linux, Control-M, Oracle Developer, Oracle Scheduler, SQL*Loader, Linux shellscripts

Part of their continuous improvement plan to improve product and customer service, a major food retailer upgraded the hardware and Oracle database on their core data warehouses. As Architect Bart was responsible for planning and executing the various upgrade paths of the data, ETL batch, and reporting while maintain availability of the existing system until the upgrade was complete. Additional activities involved resolving performance and data quality issues. As a secondary project the disaster recovery plan required redesigning and a production test completed. SMS Management & Technology (SMS) specialises in improving operational performance and IT delivery. As a consultant at SMS I was involved in multplie projects such as the example belowProject Manager, SensisAs project manager I was responsible for a team of 24 businesses analyst, developers and testers for a major release of new functionality in the Sensis Integration Fabric. This was in conjunction with a parallel roll-out of businesses wide product release and was successfully delivered by the required go-live date. The project was delivered utilising an agile approach.My responsibilities included project schedules, budget, vendor and client liaison, progress reporting to executives and managing the story board and resource allocation.

DST is a provider of Investment Accounting and Asset Servicing solution software. Bart was engaged by DST to assist with the design, development and migration of legacy data storage (indexed file based) to a relational data model on an Oracle database. The design required review of the existing data structure and needed to consider performance and possible lack of data quality in existing customer databases. The core application is written in COBOL which provided additional challenges for retrieving and storing the data.

As a consultant for Oakton I was involvled in multiple projects. Below is an example.Team Leader for an ANZ private banking intranet application to record compliance and governance of private bankers. The application required the collection and reporting of data at the individual, state and national level. Auditors required access to the application from any national ANZ office.I was responsible for managing the design and performance of the application as well as supervising the java programmers, attending project meetings, database management, data extraction and load, reports and supervising testing and test results.

My primary role involved in a long term engagement at ANZ to assist with Internet Banking upgrade and Margin Lending project. I also became involved in the Risk Management Data warehouse project to carry out performance tuning and database management.My role was initially to be responsible for the upgrade of the Internet Banking database from Oracle 8i to Oracle 9 on Windows NT. I was required to complete the necessary project documentation, change requests (an intensive process in banks), testing and production implementation. During his tenure Bart also assisted with the maintenance of other Oracle databases within ANZ and identified other opportunities for additional work such as support for Margin Lending development and performance tuning of SQL and database for the Risk Management data warehouse. I also ran an education course on writing effective SQL for the data warehouse developers.

I was employed with Oracle Corporation for over 13 years as a consultant progressing up to Senior Principle Consultant and later Business Consultant in pre-sales. Over this period I was engaged on many projects across many industries. Below is some examplesFoster’s Brewing group As Lead database designer of an online ordering system for hotels and restaurants, I was responsible for the design, development and implementation of the Oracle database with complex requirements of performance as well as integration with financial, stock pricing and dispatch systems. This project was implemented using an agile methodology and delivered in 16 week cycles.Astro - MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was the project leader in the design of a document management system for a Malaysian subscription satellite television station. COTS Document management systems did not really exist at this time. The aim of the content management system was to gather content from various departments (including legal, radio and a library) and then make it searchable and shareable. The resulting document system could support any type of electronic, scanned or non-electronic (library) document with security for each department and organisational role. The application was also required to integrate with other third party tools such library book management and an optical character recognition (OCR) system for importing hard copy documents and articles.I was responsible for business analysis, information gathering, vendor tool assessment, design and final specifications of the application.
