Hi linkedIn people! I'm Bart, a now 5th year PhD researcher. I investigate how DNA methylation might play a role in the swarming behavior of locusts. Besides the beauty of doing science for the knowledge, this research may also provide a key avenue towards a sustainable, targeted way to control locusts swarms. It's a real challenge, allowing me to make use of all the hard and soft skills I've acquired during my time in the Vanden Broeck lab. Entomology and molecular biology research are fun to do on your own, but even better as a team. I've mentored 11 students throughout my PhD. I take great pride in teaching them, and love it even more to watch them develop into full-fledged researchers.In my spare time I try to balance my passion for wines, fine dining and cooking (in that order) with staying healthy and fit. Not easy, but no things worth doing are.I hope to grow both as a person and as a scientist throughout my career, and I want to make sure my efforts matter.
