Bart studied organic chemistry (MSc.) and business studies at the Radboud University Nijmegen. He worked on the ‘de novo’ synthesis of aminoglycoside precursors. This is where he found the love for building solutions from the ground up. Starting with a completely blank sheet can be terrifying but also liberating. It presents a huge task but also endless possibilities and opportunities. After university Bart started to work in a large multinational R&D organization. Océ R&D (currently Canon R&D) in Venlo researched new copiers, printers and all related technologies. Various roles in research, innovation, application research and services research gave a broad vision on the challenges and difficulties in large organizations. Both the different customer perspectives and the internal perspective combined to an integrated vision on these challenges.An important part of these challenges revolved around knowledge and networks. How do you find relevant knowledge when you need it? How do you determine what knowledge you need? How do you mobilize external knowledge or motivate internal knowledge sharing? From explorations on these questions Bart experienced the power of, mostly informal, social networks. All of these learnings led to the inception of an ‘ExpertFinder’ pilot. This was an email based knowledge network inventory. The viral marketing effect of this pilot led to extending this pilot into the spin-out GuruScan.The GuruScan journey started with a more consultative approach. Working for different client, advising them how to use the power of social knowledge networks to their advantage. Gradually over time GuruScan built software solutions to speed up these processes and reporting or knowledge mapping solutions. Early 2021 we released our first fully integrated software solution which covers the basic knowledge mapping and retrieval, team knowledge booster and network visualization. Bart is connected to GuruScan as co-founder and CEO. He lectures on knowledge management and organizational network analysis at multiple universities (Netherlands, Italy and US). He is also an experienced international speaker on Knowledge, HR, networks and innovation for conferences like Henley Forum and companies like Philips and Telefonica.Bart works from Amsterdam (the Netherlands) where he lives with his wife and two kids. To relax he likes to do long endurance bike rides and races, amongst others with Randonneurs Netherlands.
