In 1980, I was commissioned as a Police Officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department. Throughout my 31-year career with BRPD, I served the following divisions: Uniform Patrol, Burglary, Investigations, Criminal Intelligence, Armed Robbery, and Homicide. I am certified as a POST Homicide Investigator. I have vast experience with experience in courtroom testimony, including civil service hearings, district, federal, and civil courts, and grand juries. In 2007, I was appointed Chief of Detectives over the Violent Crime Bureau. During that time, I was instrumental in establishing the Violent Crime Unit (VCU), which is still active today. VCU brings investigators from the BRPD, EBRSO, LSP, and the District Attorney's Office together to work violent crime cases within the parish. This allows for more efficient investigations and ensures that cases are investigated in the most thorough way possible.After retiring from the BRPD in 2011, I joined the Police Department at Louisiana State University. I lead the department in getting accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. CALEA's Accreditation serves as the international gold standard for Public Safety Agencies. In 2023, I retired from LSU as the Chief of Police.Throughout my career, I have valued and championed better training opportunities for myself and the officers who worked for me so, it has been an easy decision to take on my next role as an Adjust Instructor with NCBRT (National Center for Biomedical Research and Training). My areas of expertise include but are not limited to the following: Campus Active Shooter Integrated Response, Campus Emergency Prevention Response and Recovery, Site Protection through Observational Techniques, and Surviving an Active Threat: Run. Hide. Fight. I have traveled all over the country, teaching these classes. In addition to being an instructor, I am a licensed Louisiana Private Investigator and founder of BAT Consulting, which provides risk and security assessments for private businesses and schools. I am a member of DMORT (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team) for Region 6, the Louisiana Chiefs Association, Past President of the Fraternal Order of Police - Local Lodge, Past Chairman of the Louisiana Gang Association, and Past National Chairman of the Fraternal Order of Police Legislative Committee.
