About Bart Van Es
In my role as project engineer I contribute to the prevention of floods. By using my knowledge and skills I work on assessments and designs of flood defences. Preferably, I work on complex and challenging problems such as probabilistic calculations, water level statistics and numerical models. Working on those kind of problems allows me to (1) utilize all possibilities within the assessment and design frame work and (2) to maximize the use of the available knowledge and reduce social costs. Through my work I would like to make flood defenses resistant to climate change and to contribute to nature-based solutions.

Projectengineer Flood Risks
As a project engineer I work on the assessment and design of flood defences. These activities have interfaces with (water level-)statistics, geotechnics, nature-based solutions and probabilistics. Among other, the projects that I work for are Hansweert, Koehool-Lauwersmeer, Water Board of Brabantse Delta, Rijkswaterstaat and the Inspectie Leefomgeving en.

During my master thesis I researched the influence of fresh water in coastal waterlevel predictions. influence of density differences on water levels on a global scale. In order to do this, I quantified the effect on a global scale with Delft3D. This way I have been able to investigate the relationship to flood risks. In my thesis I used numerical models.

During my (professional) bachelor graduation project I worked on the dike reinforcementproject Edam - Amsterdam. The focus of my thesis was the design and execution of the project. Especialy the construction phase of this project was a challenge given the size of the project, the sensitivity to settlements and the time pressure on the project.
