Eager for innovation in compost quality and the recycling of agricultural organic waste, and on the use of compost, biochar and plant fibres in sustainable growing media, I was Project Lead of the NutriHort Benchmark study and convener of the related NUTRIHORT conference on innovative techniques and strategies for reduction of nutrient losses in horticulture, was member of the EIP-AGRI Focus Group ‘Fertilizer efficiency’ (https://ec.europa.eu/eip/agriculture/en/focus-groups/fertiliser-efficiency-focus-horticulture-open) and ‘Circular Horticulture’ (https://ec.europa.eu/eip/agriculture/en/focus-groups/circular-horticulture), and was involved in the EU FP7 FERTIPLUS project (Reducing mineral fertilisers and agro-chemicals by recycling treated organic waste as compost and bio-char products). I was Project Lead the Interreg2seas project Horti-BlueC on Circular Horticulture (www.horti-bluec.eu), and was convenor of the recent ISHS GrowingMedia2021 symposium (www.growingmedia2021.com/). Supervisor for ILVO of the SBO project BASTA (www.biochar.solutions/). Quality manager of BELAC accredited (EN ISO 17025) laboratory for chemical analysis of plant, soil, growing media and soil improvers.
