In 2009 he opened the BARTELE GALLERY in Jakarta with antique maps, prints and antiques. His collection is mainly focussed on the Dutch Indies. He owns a bi-weekly publication, named 'Indonesia Expat' (circulation: 35.000 monthly). In 2014 Bartele decided to move with his wife Roos and their three children back to The Netherlands after 24 years in Indonesia. In 2015 he opened an antique map gallery in Langweer and in 2018 another one in Sneek, while still operating the one in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Jakarta. He currently is also trying to re-launch the -in 1975 forbidden - Santema Berenburg, an herbal alchohol liquor. He successfully organised the first Jakarta-Langweer Festival in July 2016 whereby hundreds of guests flew in from all over the world to see bands from Indonesia play. Creative marketeer and strong networker and fluent in Bahasa Indonesia, he turned his name 'Bartele' into a well known brand in Indonesia and now continues to do so in The Netherlands. Bartele doesn't find market opportunities, he creates them. Hobbies: Driving his Tesla and promoting Friesland by organising Fat Mans Walks with the goal to pass all 600 villages in Friesland before the year 2021. In July 2020 Bartele opened the first American 'retro-style' Diner in Friesland at Station Grou-Jirnsum, close to where his roots are.
