Bart Geers graduated as a pharmacist (Mr. in Pharmaceutical sciences) in 2008 cum laude and afterwards started his PhD studies in the lab of Prof. Dr. Stefaan De Smedt and Prof. Dr. Jo Demeester within the Ghent Research Group on Nanomedicines (GRGN) as an academic assistant in physical pharmacy.After a short period in pharmaceutical industry Bart became manager of the multidisciplinary research platform on nano- and biophotonics (NB-photonics) within Ghent University. During this period Bart gained deep insight in photonics technology and combined his expertise in life sciences and nanosciences to generate new projects merging technology with life sciences. This lead to the incubation of a spin-off company in lab-on-chip diagnostics in which he managed the execution of the project up to spin-out. Currently Bart is working at KULeuven Research & Development (LRD) where he coaches startup projects in health technology and manages the spin-out, investment process and operational execution of these projects. Next to this he supports business development within KULeuven, the largest TTO in Europe.
