Senior Software ArchitectNxp Oct 2006 - Jul 2008At Mobile and Personal, I was a key member of a team that defined a audio co-processor in close cooperation with Nokia. The software architecture was very important because memory footprint and power define to a great extent the business-case. The IC and software were delivered on time and meeting the power targets.• By creating a power and memory model and presenting a prototype demo, had an important stake in the design win at Top Four mobile phone company for an audio-coprocessor. • To limit the budget, defined work packages that allowed to off-shore more than half the work to our team in Bangalore. Kept the teams connected and empowered through regular telecoms and F2F meetings. • Because schedule was challenging, developed a strategy that allowed starting Software development earlier based on existing platforms and FPGA's so that all key functionality could be verified before first silicon. This allowed delivering the IC and software on time. -
Software ArchitectPhilips Semiconductors Jul 2002 - Sep 2006At portable audio, I managed the technical aspects of a multi-site multi M$ team (including a large crew in Bangalore, India) throughout the differentphases of the software development cycle to deliver low power and product quality software to our customers.• Benchmarked several Linux, codec and GUI suppliers to build a Software Eco-system that would allow bringing down software development costs. Provided technical support to these suppliers so that they were able to deliver based on the agreed milestones.• When confronted with management decision of sub-contracting our team’s assignment to Wipro, an Indian software house, provided on-site architecture training and daily support, such that the remote team was able to meet its deadlines.• Made a customer happy, by flying into Shenzen and solving a few bugs in his part of the product software which prevented market introduction. -
Software ArchitectPhilips Electronics Hasselt Sep 1996 - Jul 2002At Optical Storage, I was responsible for the definition and deployment of the embedded software architecture of a CD-RW drive. As part of a multidisciplinary team (hardware, software, mechanics, optics), I helped to shape the roadmap including IC selection and make-or-buy decisions.• When management decided on Second Sourcing our drive solution, assessed their solution and supported that Japanese team to prevent them falling into the same pitfalls.• Was responsible for the definition and deployment of the embedded software architecture of a CD-RW drive. • As part of a multidisciplinary team (hardware, software, mechanics, optics), lead small teams to implement the roadmap of new product features. • Spent 1 year in Eindhoven participating in running projects, to build the required knowledge so that we were able to create a new Basic Engine team with 20 people in 2 years.
