Currently, K&S is offering turn-key pesticide-free mosquito control and elimination solutions for islands in tropical settings. We specialise in mosquito management in small resorts and private islands.I am a scientist and conservationist with an MSc (cum laude) in Biology and a PhD in Medical Entomology from Wageningen University, the Netherlands (1996), and obtained an MBA degree with distinction in 2006 (Open University, UK) for which I won the international ‘MBA Student of the Year 2007 Award’ as well as the Alumnus of the Year Award from the Open University. I worked in East and Southern Africa for 11 yrs where I managed large-scale research and vector control programmes when working for ministries, international or national research institutions. I worked for the UN (IAEA) as a programme manager for three years, served as a consultant for the World Health Organization.I have published >140 research papers, have (co)authored 19 book chapters, and have served as senior editor on a WHO/IAEA sponsored book on implementation research. In 2007 I co-edited a best-selling book titled 'Emerging Pests and Vector-Borne Diseases in Europe'. I was awarded an Ig Nobel Prize (2006), an IAEA Special Service Award (2006), and in 2007 became a laureate of the Eijkman medal (the highest award in the field of tropical medicine in the Netherlands). I have been a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2004. Now I direct K&S Consulting, a firm I founded in 2007. I lecture at MSc/PhD level for several Universities and organisations (KIT, Radboud Univ., WUR, VU) in the fields of (public) health (infectious diseases), science communication, and entrepreneurship.Since 2011 I have been serving as the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Dutch Malaria Foundation.
