CmoDemiplane (Acquired) Mar 2022 - Nov 2023As CMO, I led exponential user, subscriber, and revenue growth for a B2C entertainment technology startup with both live service and software as a service (SaaS) offerings. I accomplished this through strategic marketing initiatives for brand marketing, product marketing, and growth marketing programs and campaigns.This brand, product, and revenue growth wasn’t the result of a single silver-bullet solution. To get there, I grew the team, including new marketing FTEs, freelancers, agencies, and consultants. I evaluated, selected, and implemented new marketing technology tools. Through cross-company collaboration, I developed actionable audience personas, brand positioning and messaging, and full lifecycle consumer journeys from lead generation through post-conversion customer engagement. By using data-driven decision making to evaluate and prioritize marketing tactics and analyze consumer behavior, I created an integrated multi-channel strategy to execute digital marketing campaigns that included CRM/email, ecommerce, site, content, search, influencer, sponsorship, organic social media, PR, paid media, and partner touchpoints.Product marketing leadership for digital, licensed tabletop roleplaying games was a big part of Demiplane’s user and revenue growth story. As Director of Marketing, I was the buck-stops-here leader for the marketing related to D&D Beyond and our first-party title, Tales of Xadia. ToX was based on the Dragon Prince IP, licensed from Wonderstorm and Netflix, while D&D Beyond was licensed from Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast.The success of my strategic marketing initiatives and go-to-market activities was only possible through cross-company collaboration. I ensured everyone who touched marketing knew they were part of a team, regardless of their specific reporting structure.Together we delivered high-ROI digital marketing encompassing ecommerce conversion rate optimization, social media, digital content, SEO, in-app digital marketing, SMS/mobile, email, influencer, sponsorship, and paid media. This was multi-channel marketing done right: not just a collection of touchpoints, but an intentional, consumer-centric experience that delivered a consistent, integrated, high-impact value proposition.Alongside new brand positioning and messaging, customer-focused strategy and data-driven decision making unlocked new value propositions within our subscription products. The enhanced subscription offerings fueled annual recurring revenue, grew total subscribers, and increased subscriber retention.
